As far as we know, PrusaSlicer is the first high-quality open-source MSLA slicer available.  But I’ve used plenty of supports generated by S3D in the past, and they were always easily better than the older slicers I used like Makerware or ReplicatorG. The ‘normal style’ support that other printers generate create more material, but also are less likely to fail\fall, and can often recover higher up. one big thing is the supports in slic3r (prusa edition anyway) are way overkill and there is no function to add selective supports like in s3d. It's completely free and open-source.  And you always need at least one: The power comes into play however, that you can assign them per mesh to print (if there are multiple being printed): You can even ‘group’ processes so as to link their similar parameters together, so changing one changes all others (see how this works. It’s taken quite a while to do all the research! This is not a post designed to bash Simplify3D and espouse the values of some other slicer:  My goal is to make it an honest comparison of the two software. I’ve also been testing Pathio, that i nicknamed Pathetico. Expose upcoming features & bug-fixes that are in development:  If I knew all the problems I discussed above would be fixed in an upcoming release, I’d be far less likely to spend the hours I have looking at other slicers. It took from 2.0 to 4.0 for the bridging issue to be finally be addressed (about 3 years) yet it sat on the forum not touched by the devs. Want to try Prusa Slicer. Slic3r or Cura? 75 maybe and anything higher is just highway robbery especially considering how his business model works with opaqueness and when you grab an engine that I know had to have been free, or really is the Kisslicer source code, then I have to consider them at least scum. You can do this manually in slicer. Now you are ready to start printing.  You can do it, but (instead of the File menu) via “Platter -> Export Plate as AMF…” (. Slic3r offers several infill patterns, four regular, and three more exotic flavours. So before the first layer is being printed you could add: As it happens, in my own personal journey I've been moving in the opposite direction, from Cura to Prusa Slicer (formerly scli3r PE). PrusaSlicer is originally based on Slic3r by Alessandro Ranellucci. In PrusaSlicer, you can select the layer height for each part of the object separately. 99% of the time cura is way faster.  I should also note that a number of people abstained saying “I don’t see any difference”.  Since then I’ve used multiple slicers to generate my gcode, but mainly (and in order):  ReplicatorG, MakerWare (now MakerBot Print), and Simplify3D. They both provide a similar level of knobs to twist for designing your print settings. But first you must make a choice on which slicer to use. Yeah lack of control for supports is annoying. Windows: Slic3r works for version 1.2.9, not doing it for version 1.1.7. Setting storage:  Slic3r for the win here:  All if it’s printer, print, and filament settings are stored on desk in ini files, easily accessed by others, while S3D hides all the settings in the software itself. I have been using Cura since I started 3d printing on my A8. 3D printing is always about the quality versus the print time. We currently parse, and up to some level interpret, G-code from PrusaSlicer, Slic3r, Slic3r PE, CURA, ideaMaker, Simplify3D, Craftware and KISSSlicer. Framemanager. And mainly that edition over vanilla Slic3r because vanilla Slic3r hasn’t been updated since mid 2015, while the Prusa edition is being actively developed (+ extra fancy features). If two walls are close together, they can be collapsed into one, so as to not cause an overextrusion problem in that area. So currently we are unable to place any orders with Prusa Research. The thin wall collapse does help give better definition to features though, compare the portholes in these to Slic3r prints: Note how the porthole on the left has better definition. Would you please provide Cura projects I can experiment with, where the benefit of concentric supports is visible? I have never been a happy a camper with S3D and always liked Slic3r (kisslicer took forever to slice models but was more accurate for holes if you check the old nophead posts he proved it) better but the only thing that I still think S3D does better is the easily removable supports but outside of that I think it is like any other free slicer (good and bad). I did most of my testing with the 3dBenchy model, trying to make sure both slicers had similar values. new S3D wins here, providing more tools that are easier to use.  In addition, within reason (and discussed below in more detail), it will print a collapsed single wall much thinner than your nozzle width, which is desirable. Even though I think I have it tuned in for that filament, I feel like my tests were slightly over-extruding. PrusaSlicer is licensed under the GNU Affero General Public License, version 3. Slic3r only lets you modify the ‘print settings’ per model, you can’t adjust printer or filament settings, which would help greatly. S3D gives you control over where you put supports, but it’s auto-create-support feature sucks.  After setting up similar profiles in both slicers and printing 3dBenchies, the results look different, but great.  Take them for what you will.  But also go look at the top/first pic of the S3D/Slic3r compare above:  You can see the same artifact in the S3D print as well.
